Shennia Laurence
Managing Attorney of the Merits Department
Personal Experience
Shennia Laurence is the Managing Attorney of the Merits Department, where she leads the
preparation and litigation of cases before the Immigration Court. In her role, she supervises
case strategy, coordinates filings, ensures cases are thoroughly developed, and personally
represents clients in hearings.
Shennia was born in Trinidad and spent her formative years between Trinidad and New York. She is now based in Miami, Florida. Her legal career began as a Public Defender with the Bronx Defenders, where she worked in the New York Immigrant Family Unity Project, representing detained immigrants in removal proceedings. Her dedication to immigrant rights and public service was evident early in her career, beginning in law school, where she was an active member of the Immigration Clinic, the Immigration Student Association, and several other advocacy-focused student organizations.
Shennia holds a Juris Doctor from Stetson University College of Law. She earned both a
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of New Haven.
Beyond her legal work, Shennia is passionate about personal growth and building meaningful connections in her community. She also has a love for travel and enjoys immersing herself in new cultures, cuisines, and experiences around the world.
